We need your voice.
The Portland Housing Bureau is beginning work on its five-year plan about how to use City and Federal housing dollars. We need your help making the case about the importance of affordable homeownership.
We know that despite the downturn in housing prices, owning a quality home continues to be out of reach for many working families in the region.
We also know you know that!
Will you join us next week to tell the City that affordable homeownership is important to you and your family?
We need as many folks as possible your participation really will make a difference!
Your voice will help inform how dollars are spent on programs like Proud Grounds that create access to homeownership.
Affordable Homeownership Public Hearing

Dinner will be provided. Childcare and translation are available upon request by calling (503) 823-2396 three days in advance of the hearing.
See below for other ways to help if you cannot attend the hearing.
This is really important but its also pretty easy!
Your own words are all you need. Why do you want to own a home? What has NOT owning a home meant for you and your family?
Sharing your story is the most powerful point you can make. But if you're looking for some thoughts on what to say, heres what we intend to say next week:
- Despite the downturn in prices, owning a decent home is still out of reach for hard working families with stable jobs.
- Portlands economy continues to add jobs that pay too little to afford the median home price. We need solutions to help stable families find stable homes. We dont want to become another San Francisco, where average working folks cant afford to live in the town where they work!
- The minority homeownership gap is very real. And it is the widest among low and moderate income families. We must act to close this gap and give ALL households equal opportunities to achieve homeownership.
- With our region adding a million people over the next 25 years, owning a home is only going to get more expensive. We need to do something today to ensure that families today and our children tomorrow can afford to call Portland home.
