Oregonian: Joining Hands for Homeownership

In March, Victoria and Venique Lamy launched themselves out of an economic situation that might sound familiar to many moderate-income families. It took the help of a whole coalition of East Portland support organizations, but they managed to buy their first home.

Feeling blessed, relieved and excited about their future, the Lamys moved into the newly built four-bedroom, two-bath house in Southeast Portland only a few weeks ago, after getting guidance and financial help from the African American Alliance for Home Ownership, Proud Ground, ROSE Community Development Corp., and Portland YouthBuilders.
