The joy of homeownership

“There’s not a better feeling than becoming a homeowner. I feel such joy; I can’t believe this is really mine. Hopefully now my kids will want to become homeowners.” Tracie, single mom of three, medical office receptionist, and new Proud Ground homeowner.

Tracie has many reasons to feel joyful about homeownership. We all know the obvious ones – pets, gardens, swing sets, purple bedrooms, stability, growth, community.

However, Tracie and all the other Proud Ground homeowners have a bonus reason to be so happy about homeownership: In a period of deep economic decline marked by steep foreclosures, Proud Ground homeowners have a 0% foreclosure rate. Zero.

That’s pretty phenomenal today.

But we’re not really all that surprised. For one, our families get traditional, 30 year fixed-rate mortgages at great rates. No sub-prime, adjustable-rate, interest-only mumbo jumbo. They know they’ll have a stable payment for the next 30 years.

And there’s more. You see, a core feature of our program is post-purchase support of homeowners, helping to ensure that Proud Ground families don’t lose their homes. Proud Ground staff work intensively with homeowners – before the sale, providing extensive education and counseling about homeownership and all it entails; and after the purchase, providing everything from resources regarding budgeting and finances to direct consultations with Proud Ground’s skilled home repair and maintenance staff.
